Fleece Blanket for Warm Weather 'Top Quilt'

Being that I'll likely be hammock camping mostly in the warmer months until I can accumulate some gear for colder weather, I got to wondering if anyone here has made a 'top quilt' from a fleece blanket? I saw a pattern here on a how to thread for a down model that looked like it would adapt quite nicely.

    Thanks,

    Steve D

OK, now don't laugh but I simply gathered up the end (much like a gathered end hammock) and wrapped it with a piece of paracord. Then used a couple of blanket pins to pin the two sides together to make a foot box. Worked great and was all I needed on summer nights.

Steve, I recently picked up a $10.00 king/queen fleece blanket from WM. 120"x90", I cut 2 pieces, 45"x 100", rolled a 14" diameter x 18" deep footbox in one and a 13" x 18" in the second. The second will sleeve inside the first for cooler conditions. Just finished today so haven't field tested yet, but will probably not need both for the March hang in Florida. It didn't take long to get out of the double. The double weights 36.4oz, the outer 18.7 and the inner 1ounce less. I tried a sleeping bag last week and found there wasn't enough room for the two of us. Took the bag back and bought the blanket a couple of hours on the thread injector. I'm happy, but then I'm in Florida where we don't get too cold.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Not sure what you are asking, are you going to put the down inside the two layers of fleece?

i made a uq out of both wool and fleece.here is a thread i did about it
    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=21989

the wool one i use in the summer in between the layers of my hammock.have used it down to 32deg.the fleece one i add under the hammock down to about 20deg.(useing both uq).i ended up adding a layer of ripstop to the fleece one to cut the wind a little better.

Here's a TQ I made from Fleece, cheapo batting, Insul-brite, and nylon...

It's just a rectangle, 48" wide by 72" long (works for up to 5'8" or so).

Skip the insulation and nylon... instant TQ...

Detailed instructions are here: just skip a bunch of steps. I tapered my original. In hindsight, just make it a rectangle...

I just commented on the jrb fleece quilt post. I figured ill write it here too. I just recently got a fleece sleeping bag/line from dicks for $10. I planned to make it into a quilt with a footbox but am going to try it as a bag, since there's no real insulation to smash. It said its good down to 50 degrees. That seems like a stretch bit who know. Its really thin fleece, just weighed it and its 20oz. Heavy, but for $10 and a few more ounces, it'll save me a lot til I can get a summer down tq.
