    Winter camping in your Clark...

I figured it was time we had a thread just for this subject so information and tips can be consolidated...

I was on a 3 day winter camping trip last week-end in Wisconsin. The first 2 nights were car camping so I used a tent. The third night I snowshoed to the campsite in the Black River State Forest. Since we were experiencing a January thaw I chose to bring the Clark...temps were above freezing that night. In fact, when I woke up Sunday morning I found myself in a dense fog. I had the Weathershield only half deployed and slept on the Exped Downmat 7 in my Feathered Friends Eider (rated minus 20) bag...needless to say, I never even got close to cold...

I am looking hard a the Clark Hammocks, too. How would a normal underquilt from JRB or Speer work with a Clark? What advantages do you Clark owners see in your hammocks over other brands? Mule
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.

My son and I are going to the Adirondacks this weekend. Highs will be in the single digits and lows will probably be well below zero. We've decided we just don't have enough cold weather experience to depend on our hammocks as emercency shelter - we are only planning a day hike but we always prepare to be stuck in the woods overnight.

In stead we will take an avalanche shovel and build a snow cave if needed. We'll use bivys and vapor barriers if we get stuck. Hopefully, we'll get the chance to test the hammocks in not-so-cold weather this spring.
