    Thread Injector Problems

Got a Brother thread injector XL2600i that is 2 months old. Has been working fine and have sewn several stuff bags with it trying to learn how to sew a straight stich. Couple of days ago I started on a new project to make a hammock and the sewing maching started off fine and in just a few seconds it started sounding labored and stoped. I removed the fabric and the bobbin and opened the plate under the needle to see if anything such as fabric or thread was stuck and it all looks clear. I tried the machine again with no thread and same thing, the machines starts off fine and in just a few seconds it sound labored and stops. The closest authorized repair shop is 3 hours away. Any ideas ? There is a place in town that works on sewing machines but I don't want to spend $100 to fix a machine when I can buy a new for for less than that.

Have you taken the lower assembly apart?

Take a look at the manual.

Pull the bobbin, flip the two (normally black plastic) clips outward.

Pull the ring, and the inner piece (don't remember what it's called)

Look for thread tied up in there.

    Pull the needle.

Run the machine with it apart: does it still act funny? Look for anything jammed in the mechanism...

    Good luck!

The manual does not cover anything related to current problem. Already removed bobbin and did not see any thread but will re check it.

You might want to try that. My Singer manual states to oil every week under regular use. The manual will tell you exactly where to oil it. Just be careful not to over do it.
If you bought this recently, is it under warranty and check to see if there is a toll free # to call for assistance?

Be careful of oiling the machine. It may have electronic components in it that would short out from exposure to the oil.

I am guessing it is a motor/drive problem given that the stitches are not described as faulty. This is a low end Brother machine and as such it does not have the durability of many of the older or more expensive machines. If you got it from Wal-Mart it is a well known issue, at least around here, that some equipment sold through Wal-Mart are sold as unidentified seconds. (I've seen Bicycles in Wal-Mart repainted and rebranded but the original labels are still visible.) If the return warranty from the vendor is still valid you might want to go that route. If bushings and drive gears are binding you will have a real hard time getting the machine to work.

If you let it sit for a few minutes and try it again does it do the same thing? If so, I would suspect there is a heat override switch that is kicking in and stopping the machine. The theory is it will prevent the motor from burning out. But if the drive bushings are worn or worthless the problem will be a recurring one. Missing some recommended oiling should not result in this kind of problem without showing other signs of or problems earlier on. My money is on a catastrophic breakdown of the drive system.

The machine should be warranted by the manufacturer but if you open the case at all you will probably void that warranty. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I fear the worst for this machine.

I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

My manual does not mention oiling the machine at all. I think it is a motor related failure. Returning it will be hard as my son ordered it for me as a XMas present via Amazon.

Do you remember getting an upper thread break prior to this issue? If so, try to look into the Upper thread path (where it loops around the plastic) to see if there is any thread stuck in this section. I know that thread wrapped around around the upper shaft can cause the machine to labor
