    Down booties from repurposed jacket

Hey, everyone. Never posted a DIY project before, but this was one I couldn't resist.

While visiting the thrift store the other day I came across a beat-up down jacket, size women's large. I'm a 2X guy, so it didn't seem too useful. But for $5, I figured I could do something useful with it.

At home I cut off the shell and found that the down was conveniently packaged in separable panels. I removed the sleeves, sewed the "shoulder" end closed then turned them inside out.

The result? Voila! DIY down booties! And they are definitely warm. Here are a few pictures.

I took these puppies on my troop campout this past weekend. It got down to 27F on night #1 and 45F on night number 2. My feet stayed warm all night, except that one time when a bootie slipped off. I was very pleased with the result.

Great idea - garage sales this weekend might be a possibility for some down.

    Could you repost those pictures.

JCPenny has their down jackets (650 fill) on sale for $20 in the store ($30 online) and I was thinking of the same thing. Another fella posted he bought a few to make a bottom quilt and was going to use the arms for booties. I'm not much of a DIY guy, but I think I might could make a bootie.
