While my husband and I do our 3 to 6 mile walk each day I have been wondering about your method of finding distant white blazes.

We expect you have figured that out. Perhaps, going with other hikers along the way.

Also, without your dog to sniff the trail : may your senses be sharp and your nose be strong.
May the spirit of your guide dog ( in retirement ) be with you on the trail.

Ghawk- I find the trail by looking for the trampled earth path and sometimes finding blazes. When I'm lucky I get to follow another hiker. That really reduces eye strain plus the benefit of drafting and using less energy If I'm unsure of which way to go I sit down and have a snack until the next hiker wanders by. The first month will be hard but once the sides of the trail start to green up it will be easier. Luckily I'm starting in the middle of peak departure season so there will be plenty of people to follow.

Best wishes, and I do so enjoy reading trail journals. I will follow you vicariously.
