It's sewn on. If you don't want to use it you flip the hammock over. Just like a Claytor.

And if you want to use the netting there are zippers that you just unzip to get in and out correct?

No problem. Yes, there is one full length zipper that runs down the side of the hammock. As stated above, you can just flip the hammock over for net-less hanging in nice, non-buggy weather.
