    I am in NC and took a similar decision. I did get a full length UQ though to maximize the adjustability for the shoulder seasons. I haven't really tested the cold in the UQ out to see how far I can push it and still be comfortable. Like you that will probably take years to roll around though.

    i took a summer uq (Breeze) to 32 degrees. sleeping in just base layer top, in a Grand Trunk with open tarp (porch pitch)
    i was actually surprised.. what an inch of down can do!
