I went outside to read the book I bought over amazon (A Walk in the Woods by Billy Bryson) and could not get comfortable. Has anyone figured a good way to get position?

the matrix has you
I usually put something thick, like a bunched up sleeping bag or quilt, behind my back. That really helps me prop up and get comfy, where I can look down towards the book supported on my abdomen. Of course, if I needed my bag to keep warm, I'll have to figure something else out. Maybe a thick jacket, or my pack if it's not filthy or wet?
BTW, I loved that book. It cracked me up and I could relate to so much that was in there.
Like neo said, sitting in the hammock like a chair is a good is a good option. Sometimes I will lay my head more up on the side of the hammock so it's a little elevated and rest the book on my stomach or chest. I will also lay on my side with my arm folded under my head and the book kinda sitting on the hammock.
I'm a big fan of audiobooks and I have gotten in the habit of leaving the book at home and just carrying my iPod since I always take it with me to listen to music. That way you can just lay back and the hammock and listen to your book. The local library is great source for free audiobooks. My library even has a online library where you can download audiobooks in mp3 format for free.

Thanks for the quick responses, ill try both. I just got it today and really enjoy it. I literally laugh out loud at some parts.
I am with the others here;most of the time I sit chair style leaned way back, legs crossed indian style in the hammock. When I try to lie down and read, I am out.

I too am a fan of the 'lounger' position to read. While not much of a hiker, Bill Bryson was very successful in making me laugh till my stomach hurt.
Trust nobody!
The part about Katz throwing the coffee filters makes me laugh just remembering it. LOL!
