As long as I don't have to do this again!
Taken about 15 years ago on McCraney Lake. The wind had blown all the ice up to the north end of the lake. We managed to bash our way to the first campsite on the lake. All the ice was gone by noon the next day. It was fun going down to the lake and grabbing a chunk of ice to put in the scotch.
" I have not yet begun to procrastinate!"
Great pic.. Canoe vs Growlers!!
Reminds me of a trip to Rock Lake I did one spring many years ago. We were skirting the open water between the midlake ice sheet and the northwest shore. Unfortunately the wind shifted to the Southeast and we were wedged in, forcing us to chop and haul our way to the shore where we set up camp to wait out the ensuing snowstorm.
Good fun!!!!! No pics though..
Icebreaker!?! That's why I have Kevlar skid plates bow and stern!!!!!

is there still room left, I might be able to got out that weekend
how much and what do I need to know! I've browsed the post but 25 pages is a long read
Hey fred1diver,
Yes, there's still a little more room. We're really only limited by the number of sites we reserve. We've booked two and there's a max of 9 per site so that 18 slots. We've got about 16 people confirmed as coming. Nothing prevents us from booking additional sites if required.
Details: Depart Canoe Lake Friday May 13th Morning (exact time tbd), camp three nights on Tom Thomson lake and return to Canoe Lake early Monday May 16th afternoon.
If you're interested, it'd be helpful if you could post your canoeing details. So far, it's proved very useful in organizing the group.
For example... My own profile...
Name(s): Chardpp
Dates: Fri - Mon
Coming From: Toronto
Driving Up (Y/N): Yes
Can Carpool (Y/N): Yes (+2 people, but no canoes)
Flatwater Canoeing Experience: Veteran

Notes: If I take up bcaron's offer, my canoe will be available to a careful pair of paddlers. (Update: Likely soloing in my canoe)
Cheers,

I am fairly new to this forum and hammock. I am glad to see so many people in my area. I will not make it this trip, maybe next year. Looking foward to hear about the trip.
Happyseb
I'm 99% sure there will be another hang sometime this year. The first official "Ontario" hang was last year in the late summer/early fall, and there was a second one shortly after.
Just keep an eye out, I know I am always willing to go for more hangs!
I like metric, I use metric, for those of you who don't ... you should, for those of you who won't ... here.
0*C - 32*F, 10*C - 50*F, 20*C - 68*F, 30*C - 86*F
100g - 3.52oz, 500g - 17.63oz, 1kg - 2.2lbs, 16oz - 1lbs
10cm - 3.9", 1m - 3.28ft, 1km - 0.62mi
Those Trip Reports are:The first official "Ontario" hang was last year in the late summer/early fall, and there was a second one shortly after.
Ontario Hang - Fall 2010 - Algonquin Park - Trip Report
Eastern Great Lakes Hang - Winter 2011 - Trip Report
Don't forget the one that got the Ontario Hangs swinging, the Bon Echo Hang - Summer 2010
Oh and by the way, here's a couple of shots of Canoe Lake as of April 25th...A little more blue..
Note: Those planning on renting from the portage store can see the canoe racks in the distance!!
