I do have that flex also. But as you do, I pull my suspension tight at first to get the flex out of the way. The stand with the extentions works just fine for me.
When hanging a tarp, I use bungie cord on each end of the tarp.
For test hangs and just sleeping outside at the house it is fine. Still can't beat a tree hang though..

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a commercially available hammock stand? I too have the Explorer. I would like to try replacing my bed with a hammock. However, I do not have tools nor the workspace to build a hammock stand. So, commercial would be preferred.

That is a cool mod. I have a simular model i bought from Lowes and I have the exact same issue. The hanging points are way to low to get the correct hang. I need to do that mod on mine as well! Thanks for the idea

Randy you are the man. I have the same stand and put ft fence post on the end. I wanted to do this but had no idea how to bend such a big pipe.

    Randy, excellent idea and pics!
    Thanks for sharing.
I'm wondering if not a small marketing possibility here. Seems like lots of us have this stand or variants that could use the extension.
With that stand I've currently got a bridge hammock setup in the bedroom but as all have seen it doesn't work well with a lot of hammocks.....
So to use the Blackbird/Traveler in the bedroom I went 86 inches up the wall, drilled a hole to the outside world, put a 4 foot 1/4 inch x 4 inch steel plate on the outside of the wall with a hole in it. Ran a threaded eyebolt to the inside of the house.
The other wall was in a bathroom but did the same thing. The steel plate in the bathroom is above the vanity light and also 86 inches off the floor...it is 'unsightly' but I plan on a decorative wood shroud. The outside steel plate after a primer coat disappears-but unsightly or not it allows me to effortlessly use several gathered ends in the house and switch them out quickly when doing demos.

I've been using this setup for several years. I had a welder friend make the extensions from boiler tubing...much heavier than exhaust pipe...and then had them powder coated. So far no rust! Two sets of loops, one for tarp one for hammock.
Oh yes, SS cable and turnbuckles take the flex out of it.

YES! We need a heavy duty extension bar made to fit over the uprights of the Vario ( and other ) stand! I wonder why they didn't make this thin taller to start with?

So what kind of cable is that? SS?
