A really cool looking tarp. There doesn't seem to be any camo silnylon anywhere. I'm toying with the idea of making a 2 hammock tarp and would love a camo one.

Was there any reason you chose your form of applying the silicone over soaking? Did you squeegee the excess off of the tarp at all?

    Perrito,

It was just the method that made the most sense to me. It is kinda squeege and apply at the same time plus i was really able to see where I did and didn't get the solution into the material. It waorked good and I would likely do it the same way if i was going to do another one. It seemed to really get a uniform smooth application of the solution using this method. Others have had just as good of an outcome using the dunk method. Seems to be more personal choice, more so than one method is better.

Well done sir! I Like it!

Did all the brush marks come out of the finish or are they permanent?

    Silicone question

    Fantastic tarp, very professional.
I'm inspired to make a cammo one too.
What brand/kind of silicone? Can it be purchased at Home Depot or Lowes?
I use silicone bath sealer (paste) daily, I'm thinking this is something else.

100% silicone from the tube, same as you use on your tubs and windows. Mix with mineral spirits. 4:1 or 5:1 ratio (1 being the silicone). Mix well till all the silicone is completely dissolved.

    Great tarp!

....I've been thinking about this as well. I'd just need to get off my butt and find out where to find silicone in Japan at my underpowered Home Center.

Very nice job. Thanks for the details and pics of applying the silicone. I was wondering about making my own silnylon, and that helps. And by the way, I have a '79 CJ 5, do you own one too?

Skookum, I used a foam brush so it really didn't leave brush marks. You can kinda see spots where I didn't get the solution smoothed as good, but they are faint.

Squidbilly, I do have a 79cj5, fun toy and money pit.
