Has anybody modified a Bivy sack to use as a hammock?

I have a military 3 piece sleeping bag with gore-tex bivy and was thinking I could mod it to double as a hammock with zippable cover/ pod.

I have the skills and tools to do the job, I just don’t know anything about the critical design of a hammock or if there is even enough material.

Or am I thinking too far out of the box,
should I leave the bivy alone and buying a light weight hammock?

Most hammocks are made from 10+ feet lengths of material. That length is needed for comfort. Your bivy is not that long.
    Buy a hammock.

I saw this online, and thought of making it into a hammock...

NYLON BODY BAG. BRAND NEW! NEVER USED! Nylon body bag is exactly the same as standard issue US military body bag is made from heavy duty OD nylon and feature a full length heavy duty zipper down the middle of the bag and 6 nylon hand holds Apart from their obvious use, these make excellent sleeping bag covers, emergency sleeping bags, field expedient stretchers and/or hammocks. Also great for duck hunters for use as decoy carrying bags. Measures 37"x88". NEW.

A $10.00 diy hammock and that modular bag with a pad will do the trick. I would'nt alter the bag, it is great as is.

I suspected that the bivy had insufficient amount of material for a hammock.

    Thanks for the input.

There have been a few attempts at a "sleeping bag/hammock" in one design. The Panda is the one I've seen most. If I remeber correctly it has not been successful in competing with a standard hammock in any way. They are too short and too narrow to provide for a diagonal lie and present condensation issues galore. I don't even know if the Panda is still available. The linked web page was for illustration only not for availability.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
