Bloomgorge's Elephant Trunk Marlin Spike replacement clips...

So I won a pair of Bloomgorge's Marlin Spike replacement clips by coming up with a name for them. He had one idea for them and I had another when put to use. I have the WBBB and Traveler hammocks with adjustable webbing suspension and was thinking these would make excellent kit for easily removing the webbing from the gathered end hammocks at take down. My thinking is that this would make for a cleaner (no tree sap) hammock. I'll start the experiment pics to maybe make this a bit more clear.

My next idea was that The Elephant Trunks (ETs) could be slipped through the loop on the tre end of my WB webbing to eliminate the biners normally used there. Seems the WB loops are a smidge too small for the ET to fit through. I grabbed a set of AHE tree straps and they worked fine.

So the next two pics of the two different possible "tree" end set ups.

A bonus is the "eye" of the ET works perfectly for the mini biners on my KAQ DW. So the last shots of the set up with the requisite knot to lock these in place and the KAQ attached.

Ultimately these are a nicely made set of clips. I am not too fussed up about the need to use my biners as they are carried on my motorcycle, not the back. For those who want adjustable webbing that detaches from the hammock to keep tree sap off, these are simple to use. If weight is an issue some adjustable straps with a larger end loop sewn on would be just the ticket. This would allow you to leave the biners at home, this is the way I will go when I replace the WB webbing.

They are a bit more trouble to adjust than the WB cinch buckles but not enough to make that big of a difference to me. I rate these Bloomgorge and thanks for them. Sorry it took so long to write this up Patrick but then excuses are like arm pits eh.

thanks for the right up law dawg,...i'm glad you like them. i've since changed the way i polish/finish them. the manual sanding was just too much and not consistant. if you'd like yours replaced i won't have a problem doing that.

Does this report clear up what I was trying to 'splain with the webbing loop? Replacement, is it just an asthetics thing? If so these are fine...hand crafted originals and all.
