Boys are 8 and 10...we just started getting out more in the last couple years.
I have a big inflatable canoe (a Soar 16), that is the next step. Ideally, I need help to set it up and get in into the water. Most of the rivers here have dams, but I'd like to find some long enough to do multi-day trips.
@Shug:
Pocky and Pocari Sweat...do they sell that stuff in the US?
@Boundfree:
In this particular camping area, fires are unrestricted...within the park boundaries, where you pitch your tent is unrestricted as well.
This is a mixed blessing...during the busy times (like Golden Week in late April/early May, which is the traditional "camping holiday") there can be a sea of tents for acres. Many are so close, you wonder how they are even able to guy out lines.
We've got some sites picked out now that are on hill-tops or set apart in some way by the trees or terrain, so impossible to pitch next to us. Now that we'll be hamocking, we'll be even more secluded.
