Oh solo is the way to go
Ether trail or paddle don't you know
There peace and solitude I find
To easy all troubles from the mind
Body and soul rejuvenate in delight
When the sun surrenders to night

I like to have someone around. My normal hiking buddy is an old guy who looks like kenny rogers before the weight loss and botox. Some of the guys met him at the ohio hang. I tend to hike at a slower pace, lots of breaks when I hike uphill, so i often hike alone. however, I like knowing someone else is out there with me. I want to start bringing my st bernard with me, I just haven't figured out the logistics yet. need to get her into a few hilkes first, but if I am in my hammock, I will need to tie her to a tree so she doesn't wander off. I am nervous about even just letting her off leash during the day. I guess one day I will have to take the plunge and just try it out.

    Lots of solo.

With five wilderness areas within an hour, the AT within five minutes and a National Forest 15 minutes from tying my boot laces on the front porch, it's sometimes a spur of the moment decision. I do leave maps of the routes and emergency numbers for the search parties...

I hope to complete the last of the Dolly Sods & Roaring Plains trails this year, just a few more to go.

While it's nice to go where I want, when I want, at the pace I want, I do miss sharing the trail with good company.

I've got hiking/camping buddies for a few times a year, but they all need advance notice. I enjoy their company immensely, wish we got out more. Two are like sisters I never had.

The Wife has a slim comfort range, which is completely opposite mine. Thinks bushwhacking is crazy (my favorite), and generally just doesn't see the fun. Both sons, 19 & 17 prefer less strenuous entertainment.

Upon reflection, maybe I'm just not good company...

I'm the only hanger in the house right now...but I'm working on it...

Fortunate to be married to someone who loves the outdoors. We go everywhere together. Sometimes I still go on trips with just my brothers, though.
