    Hennessy Hammock w/ Straps

I took some pics of my HH after I converted it to straps and biners. I did not untie the original Spectra cord from the hammock like I wanted to. I tied a knot right where the Spectra leaves the end of the hammock and then cut the cord. I use 1" nylon webbing from Ed Speer's site. I love the straps on my HH!

Here's a shot with the hammock tied to trees, snake skins still in place. I found that with this setup that my snake skins are WAY to long. I will make some shorter ones later.

Hammock with my $5 6x9 silnylon tarp. It's a little short so I will adding more material to the ends at a later date.

    Great pix!

How come your skins are too long? Mine were pretty much the length of the hammock when I got them, so I had to extend one to accomodate my 9x9 GG tarp.

Awesome pix! Hey...can you take some close-ups of the place where you connected the straps? I'm interested in seeing this.

I will do that! I already have the pics but I just haven't post them yet.

    blackbishop,

My snake skins went down the spectra about a foot on each side. I assumed they were supposed to be that long. I think I used the info on JJ's site to make them. Basically they could stand to be about 1 to 1 1/2 ft shorter on each side. You can kinda see how they are bunched up in the middle in the pic where the skins are pulled together.

The small ends of the skins will also not go past the biner, which I thought might be a problem at first, but it turns out that doesn't effect the way they work.

Nah, that shouldn't be a problem unless you want to try protecting your straps by covering them with the skins during hanging. In which case, just tie your spectra directly through your end loops and use the 'biner to attach at the tree end.

I think Jeff's dims are 6' long? That would leave a 2' total overlap on my HH ULB, which is ~ 10'. That's maybe a little more than I'd need, but not enough to cause a problem. Are some other HH models shorter?

Here's a pic closeup pic of the HH with a biner. I pulled back the end covers so you can see part of the stock HH whipping knot:

Why do you all keep using those heavy biners? Just put the webbing loop thru the spectra loop, then back, done. Double girthed...

Climbers use biners between ropes and webbing to avoid wear... but this is pretty much a static set up vs a dynamic set up.... plus you can readily inspect daily for wear....After all it takes 45-60 nites of use in a HH for obsevable wear of the spectra line on the tree hugger webbing in my experiance.

The main reason I use the biners is because it allows me to use the same straps for both my HH and my Speer-type hammocks. One suspension sytem to rule them all!

I also feel it makes setting up and tearing a little easier.

It is also a little easier to hang things like my boots or other articles from the support lines. I just hook them on the biner and I know they are secure. I'm not, as neo puts it, a "gram counting weenie". I have never given the weight of the biners a second thought. For me, the convenience out-weighs the weight.

Another benefit that I had never thought of until you said something Pan it that a biner would help to recduce wear and tear on the straps.

I am still learning but that seems like a lot of unnecessary stuff. Why not just use one piece of long webbing from the hammock to the tree and be done with it

I normally just attach the straps directly to the biner and then tie them to the tree. Several people here have talked about how much easier the buckles were to use and I gave in to peer pressure and made me a buckle system to try out. As soon as I get a chance to try out the buckles I will let you know whether they are indeed worth the extra parts and weight.
