Hey all - I'm a crazy winter hanger

Hey all I am in Winnipeg, Canada. Went out last weekend to the Whiteshell Provincial Forest. Went to hang out with my buds (and the wolves apparently) last weekend. Coldest hang yet. Got down to -30C (-22F) at night. WOW, I love my gear!!
I use my Peak double hammock with blue Broadstone CC foam, and Cabelas 3D -15F bag. Toasty warm.
How many other crazy winter hangers out there? What do you use for insulation in the winter? Underquilt?

    Greetings Outdoor Canuck

There are lots of Canadians that hang in the winter. A group of us were out last weekend for a hang. It only got down to -11C, but it was good as for many it was there first winter camping experience. You can read about the adventure here.

That Cabela 3D bag must be in the pound hog category and not compress very much for your to have used just a CCF pad and that sleeping bag and be toasty in -30C. Good job. Is that synthetic insulation in that sleeping bag?

    Cheers

    Brian

Yeah it is a big heavy bag, but well worth the size and weight for winter camping. It still fits on the sled, and the added weight is still less than the yummy food we chose to bring :P yes, it has syn. insulation. I like to fill my 3 Nalgene polycarb bottles with boiling water about a half hour before I hit the sack for the night. I put them in the sleeping bag to warm it up. I leave one in the foot of the bag all night, the other 2 go in my boots. That way I have free heat all nite, and drinking water in the AM.

That sounds pretty smart: boots not frozen solid in the morning.

    Welcome to the forum,

While I have not yet hung in the winter, ( I have been winter tenting though ) Sorry I said the "T" word. I do plan on it very soon. I should get my new "Toxaway Tarp" from AHE any day now as it has shipped. I will certainly do a winter hang then.
    Take care,
    Bluefin
