Yessir... the only restriction I know of is the use of metal detectors. They don't want historical relics walking away. We've had some pretty good luck in the past but it's been several years. Lots of flour gold, but if you know where to look you can find some nuggets too. Of course it's always a great way to kill time and play in the creek

    re

Saw mention of this but really had no idea where Birkshead was. I see it is mentioned in my copy of the Uwharrie trail guide.

Curious how this compares to the Woodrun area of Uwharrie where Dutchman's Creek and the southeastern portion of the Uwharrie trail is.
It sounds like this is much more mild terrain and it looks much more open as well.

It looks like this is a great over niter in terms of trail mileage and travel time to arrive at the trail head. I'll keep an eye out for the next hang out there and see if I can make it.

Can't say that I've been down on the southern end of Uwharrie except for a ORV trip on my buddy's Jeep. Sorry, but can't help you there.

Southern end of the trail is nice too. I have hiked it a few times, just not lately. Much more heavily traveled. You also have crossings with bike trails.

A wood run hang would be fun!

I went back to birkhead this morning. My plans where to do robbins run trail to birkwood to hannah creek spending the night about half way. I walked past the half way point and then was so sore I was afraid I wouldn't be able to walk the next day so I took the shortcut we were on last weekend. I walked on by where we had camped and back to the parking lot. I fixed dinner in the lot and then drove back to my brothers. After several beers and a shower I am feeling better but very tired. A lovely day and some beautiful country. I am happy I did what I did. A little over 4 hours walking in 5 hours and 16 minutes to do the 5 mile loop. I wish now I had stopped at 4 miles and spent the night
