DIY No Zipper Attached Bugnet

Going back to the two shock cord idea: How about making a removable net from two half circles of netting each with a shock cord across the top. Then sewing on a ridge vent piece of netting about twelve to sixteen inches wide that lays over the shock cords (and your ridge line if you have one). Sew the ridge vent to both side pieces along the short sides of the ridge vent. This will keep the ridge vent piece always laying down over your sides with out any weights or having to flop it over yourself. Like an envelope pillowcase (pictured) You'll be able to enter/exit either side, the vent closes itself, you get a zipperless bugnet with back protection that is removable. Does that make any sense?

That could work, but your pillow pictures got me thinking (always scary)... Pull both sides over the ridgeline and run the shock cord through the opposite side channel. it would operate just like the pillow closure that you showed, without having to have an additional piece of fabric or netting over the top.
Maybe add a little string or strap to the center of each bug net ridgeline to help easily pull the side down for entry/exit.

See the really crude drawing attached for clarification.

I haven't tried this yet, but it might work.

Examining your drawing more closely a second time, I think it would work, RJ! The ONLY thing that makes me hesitate, is that I think your idea kinda sets up one side for entry and the other side for exit. The overlap of the two sides sorta forces this. But I do like the idea, and want to pursue a zipperless, removable side-entry net. Keep thinking, RJ. (I'm not scared!)

I think RJcress noted on his drawing that he only showed an exit handle on one side and an entry handle on the other, but both sides would have both an inside and an outside handle.

One suggestion: Put the both shock cords (I know its really just one shock cord) on the same side of the ridge line.

That way you have a "prmiary" enter / exit side (the side that does not have to be pulled over the ridgeline) The primary side does not need any handles.

The secondary side will still allow entry / exit, but has handles and you have to pull the net over the ridgeline.

I like Pips idea, but thought of one down side.
Unlike the flapover method, you cannot push the bug net out of the way to just sit or lounge in the hammock when you dont need th bug net.

Or can you?

Yeah, I think you could. I'm thinking you'd just stretch both sides (or just the one in front of you when you're sitting on the hammock) under and each shock cord would catch the other side of your weight in the hammock and get pulled up against the bottom of the hammock. That might work. I think MacEntyre's videos of his SEEP hammock sock shows that (gotta go back and look at those).

Yeah, it looks like you could just flip both sides under you.

Sorry for the vid, but I simply cannot effectively explain this (well almost anything really

) without pictures. This little model is not to any scale or anything like that, I just knocked it together to better visualize what's going on. As always comments/suggestions are always welcome.

Legit questions, not rude, but somewhere back in the thread someone mentioned holding down the flap with omnitape or something (at least I think they did) Mac's top flops over the RL and is weighted I believe, and several others have drawn the flap over the RL. Then there's Pips pillow case/envelope example etc. So I take no credit for originality, I'm just trying to see this thing in 3D, and since I know my Warbonnet bugnet fits my hammock thats what I wanted to model it after. Basically I think the lightbulb finally just came on for me and I wanted to see where the holes were in my plan.
