Rj is right. They're very easy to make and you can make one for under $5. I have made a lot of these already and think they are great.

Well, I tried, but didn't have much success. When I tried drilling the bottom row of holes in my one quart paint can, it ripped big gaping holes. I'm guessing I need to get a uni-bit, which runs about $20, so I might as well just go buy the stove. I've seen a lot of good information on the bushbuddy, but man they're pricey!

My thoughts too prior to ordering mine. They are pricey but they are also a work of art and efficiency. Since they are Stainless Steel, they will out last the DIY, and based upon my lack of DIY skills I would go through several cans before I got one right and even then it's still not quite the same.

If you like DIY go for it.

If you have budget constraints, there are other alternatives out there that are less expensive.

If you are patient, you may see a used one pop up on here for a few dollars off the original price but not any real bargain basement steals and they go quickly.

Otherwise, order one, try it, if you like it then way cool. If you decide you don't like it, you could easily turn it around on here and get back the majority of what you put into it.

All of the above, simply my 2 cents worth.

I use a LittleBug Senior. I have not seen them mentioned much here, but they re great. They function as a small campfire as well and can leave no trace with a stainless steel pan underneath. Aluminum pans melt.

You may want to try pouring water in to the paint can, freezing it and then drilling the holes. The ice provides a backing so the flimsy paint can doesn't want to rip. I had the same thing happen to my first one but the second - with the freezing method - turned out a hole lot better. Get it, "hole" lot better?

I've got a homemade version of a bushbuddy that works great and it's yours if you would like. I built it and some alcohol stove's but just can't let go of my jetboil.

I've only lite it twice but it works very well
