    Snow Camp

I just got back yesterday from an overnight in the back country. It was a gorgeous day on the hike in, clear skys, probably about 35-40 degrees and around 10' of snow. I brought my homemade black cat tarp, Hennessy clone, Hennessy undercover, homemade under quilt, and 0* down sleeping bag. Intially I figured I would just set up the tarp and throw a little snow around the edges to keep the wind out, but then a storm decided to roll in so I went ahead and made snow walls for extra protection. I slept really warm (I also made some down booties that were extra cozy on the feet) and comfy through the whole night. Here are some pictures (the before and after shots are pretty dramatic):

    Initial setup:

Wow...great pics. I'm sure that you are now confident in your gear set up and your ability to improvise with snow itself. Did the "snow walls" give you a sort of igloo effect which kept the heat in? Glad you stayed warm :^)

Yeah, the walls worked great for warmth. Stepping in from the outside it was immediately and very noticeably warmer. The walls had the added benefit of creating a sort of lounger to sit against when relaxing out of the weather.

    Great pics.
