    Bridge Haammock? mmock

Can someone explain how to cut the material for a bridge hammock? I know it needs to be like a hour glass but what does it measure at the narrowest point? What effect does making it narrower or wider? this is just the beginning. Thanks for yout time and patience.

Guide to Making a Bridge Hammock

This is what I based all my bridge hammocks on. Suspension has evolved since this guide but the basic pattern has not changed. Check out the updates Grizz made in blue about measurements

Generally speaking bridge hammocks are not the best choice for big guys. The geometry of a Bridge hammock can feel very restricting to the extra large frame. The critical dimension being the spreader bar length. The longer they are the more vulnerable they are to compression forces. The more vulnerable they are the heavier they have to be. Near as I can recall, the Bridge design tops out at about 250 but I haven't kept track of the technology for a few years. Things may have changed.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Lots of things can affect the width of a bridge hammock. I moved my spreader bars about 8 inches from the ends. That help on the felt width at the shoulders. It also makes the sides of the triangle suspension longer, reducing the compression stress on the spreader bars. I use hiking poles and do not need dowels or anything to hold them in the extended position.
You can also use an self inflating pad in the bottom of a double layer bridge. The inflated pad will make the hammock seem much wider.

Have to say my new Chrysalis works great for me a 6'1" and 240. Room for someone 6'3" and maybe 275 or more. I'll have to get a large buddy over to try it.

Thanks for all the inputs. I am working on reducing my bullk but I still want to built one. Everyone needs a hobby right. I really like the idea of hiking around and hanging at camp. I'll keep in touch with my progress. It will be slow because I have home improvements going on to. I used this for a break. Thanks again.

One other thing is at this point I am not concerned about weight so I can make the spreader bars beefier.

I didn't even know those plans existed. Why isn't there a sticky on that? Thanks for posting it.
