    Different tarp tie out

While making my fist tarp (10'x12' silnylon rectangle), I had a very difficult time getting tie outs anchored to the corners, due to the slipperyness of the silnylon. Then I came up with this method. After attaching it, it looked like more tension was going to be sent down the loop parallel to the ground. After getting the tarp completed, I went out and hung it, and it appeared to do a very good job. It even negates the need for the corner reinforcements, since the hem bears most of the load. Any comments or opinions? Anyone try this with success/failures to share?

    Also, here's the whole tarp:

Looks great. I've used corners like this, usually with narrower hems. Sometimes I roll the hem around a continuous piece of 3/8" grosgrain ribbon running around the entire edge of the tarp, but that's usually only for large tarps and/or ones with catenary cuts along the edges. Your method looks nice and strong, but you might add a few more lines of stitching parallel to the tarp edges on the corner straps for security.

Very clean looking! I like it, I may even use a similar design next tarp I make.

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Yeah, the more I study it, the more impressed I am with it. I think I'll still roll up some ripstop or even grosgrain or webbing into the hem to act as a "washer", to prevent the silnylon from ripping, but I think this method will work fine. I'll be adding two more tie outs on each lower edge, to facilitate creating doors in bad weather, and will just sew them right along the hem in the same style.

I built a few tarps using tie-outs like this before and they work pretty **** good especially in the corners. I think they work best when they are sewn directly to a hem rather then being attached to bias tape edging.

Do we have an photos of the warbonnet tarp tie outs? This way we can compare.

I had thought about it, but then thought it might put too much stress on the edge.

    Nice tarp.
I like big hammocks - I cannot like.
