    Az Hang and Hunt

    So I got away from Work later than expected Friday so I got up early Saturday morning. Made it to the Control road at sunup to start looking for Sheds. Got to the Trail Head by 0700, temps were 38*5700'. Snow patches still around from last weekends storms, Milk Ranch Point still covered. Nice hike on High Line Trail to Geronimo Trail. Went up to Turkey Spring, 5900' and made Camp.2.5 miles total Hike. The Forestry service had fence off the Turkey Spring and meadow for preservation and had piped a line outside the perimeter to a Tank I though would be used as a tub in summer. Camped north of the Meadow anyways. Patches of snow here and there, Temps had climbed to 60 or so. Went looking for sheds but with the temps and Snow falls probably not falling yet, did not find any. Got to test the new Gear though. Winter Burrow kept me nice and toasty, burnt the plastic clips off the Zebra pot in the fire(Fire Proof Now) but it worked great with alky stove and fire pit, worth the extra weight. Used the snow bank to get the wine chilled and the Hobo Pie had thawed by dinner time, all was good. Figured I would hang the food Bag to keep mice and Raccoons away, bears probably still sleeping. Saturday night got down to 34* It was a good Hike, Plan on going out this week end Too.

    I'm a little Slower than you Ultra lite guys. I tend to like being able to relax a little on the hike. Got the base weight down to 20lbs, but still went out with 35lbs pack. I'll fallow you on one of these hikes sooner or later Te-Wa. Plan on doing some of the High Line as time allows. For now it's weekenders.

    Well, I have a long past history of hiking and hunting AZ, but I don't know what this "sheds" is?

    I see the hang part. But what were you hunting this time of year? Turkey?

    Are you having a dry spring( well, I guess not quite spring yet)? A wet spring usually leads to great quail hunting in the following fall.

    sheds=shedded antlers.
    and Gnome.. flip and i were just talking about you regarding hunting, and she said something cute along the lines of "gnome's the type of guy that will jump out of a tree with a knife in his teeth"
    i almost shot coffee out of the nose!
    highline tr. also has potential at several t/h's for car camping, day hiking. Washington Park is one such of the finest car camping base camp areas I can think of. Rustler Park in Chiricahua is another.

    Elks drop their Antlers every spring (Mule deer, White tail) Called Sheds. Here are some more pic's. Turkey Spring in the Meadow, they tried to pipe it but it was mostly flowing out of the ground. At one corner of the fenced area they had posted this sign, I guess because the water looked so clean coming out of the ground you would think it spring water like in the store. then there is the follower, I never really hike alone. These Trails along the rim are gradually up and down, they have rough spots, but unless you are topping the rim there are no 1000' climbs. Love the area, springs all along the rim, usually flow all year.
