    Talking guylines..

Well, I got to thinking, and that ain't never good when it's about hammocks. At the moment for my tarp tieouts I'm using plain ol' sailing 2mm lines, with the adjustment point at the peg with a marlin spike hitch.

I'd like to gain some adjustability from under cover and would like ideas of the best way.

I could go sensible, and set up a prussic knot on each tie out point and run the line through that. Nice and simple.

Or I could indulge my insanity and buy some mason line and make whoopie sling guylines.

Is there any advantage to the WS method over the other? Why am I so up for tinkering?!

I personally use the prussic method and like it, I may try it with some shock cord at the end closer to tarp . Either or would work fine for ya.

I use the prussic at the tarp D ring with a latex tube tensioner at the stake. If held my tarp tight through a pretty windy and rainy campout this past weekend, I like the setup.

I use the prusic at the D ring as well. Mine are made from mason line and I find the springyness(?) in the line is enough that I don't use any kind of self tensioners. I really like how the adjustment of the line is up out of the mud and easy to go around and re tension if needed.

Whoopie sling guylines have been discussed (just search) and tossed out due to inability to adjust under tension.

The Line Locks allow one-handed adjustment from under the tarp, a plus when it is pouring and you want to expose as little of yourself as possible. Works great with Kelty Triptease line. I have shock cord loops down at the end to loop over teh stakes.

And its to bad really, because they make a great guy line. Problem is the whoopie sling is difficult to release when its under tension. I suppose you could just pull the stake to loosen it, but its darn near impossible otherwise.

I'm new to hammocks, so take this post for what it's worth. I'm building the set-up on the attached link to try with my tarp.

Yup, that's the setup I had. I "had" it because one of my line locs got lost - last time I loan equipment to friends. I know do a more in-depth method but here's the skinny: 8' piece of Zing-It with a locked brummel 6" loop w/6" bury. Feed through your tarp D-ring and then do a prussik around a hollow bic pen (or toggle). Feed the other end of the guy line - the end going to the stake - through the pen and then remove the pen. This causes the prussik to be tied back on itself. I put a 2" loop with 2" bury at the other end larksheaded through a hole in the stake. I use a marlin spike hitch for gross adjustment and then use the prussik for fine adjustment. Not sure if that's what everyone is talking about when the say they do the prussik method or not.
