Well I think it's obvious that it's a Gadget Foot and you should use it whenever you sew Gadgets.

That's not far from it. A blind hem on a Prom Dress is a really nice touch. On hammock gear? Not so much. The blind hem is not a strong hem line. It is used to give a smooth "no lines" finish to hems on formal wear and other garments. But it only holds together by a few zig stitches. An almost useless stitch for gear. YMMV

The "thumbwheel" moves the little black shaft left or right, as viewed from the front.

The lady that give the injector to me used to use this model for teaching. Had only this one left, so if I ever catch up to her will ask what its for.

The blind hem foot is in fact useful for making gear. When you sew the second seam of a flat felled seam, you can run the edge of the fabric right along the moveable guide on the foot, and if you have a moveable needle you can "cheat" it left or right to put the stitches where you want them.

The foot may be useful. Although the above would not work with the one I have. There are very different types. However, the blind hem stitch itself is of virtually no value to the gear maker. The stitch is variation of a zig zag but the zig is only there every few straight stitches. The straight stitches don't actually hold anything in the blind hem. The little zigs do all that. Any foot can be used as a guide to accomplish the same effect.
