Is mason line Dacron? I have not used anything called mason line before but braided Dacron lines I have used plenty. That stuff is great when it is warm outside. If you add a little chill in the air and dealing with those small lines becomes a major pain. It will also cut you a lot easier because of the smaller diameter. One more reason for me to leave it alone. I'm going to have to say I like the size of zing-it a lot better.

I'll try most anything once! This pat weekend my main tarp tie-out was the rope that came with my Kelty 9 and a figure 9. The forecast was for rain and wind, so I added a few extra tie-outs, mason line whoopies. I didn't have any issues with them tangling, as that I wrapped them around an empty TP roll. Ohhh and the bright yellow mason line really stands out!

If your cheap and don't have the money to get the other stuff - it's great. Jsut get rid of it after a hang if you have problems with it and cut some more. I use it for my tie-outs, until I make the version I like with the better stuff.
I like big hammocks - I cannot like.

I was really excited about mason line until I tried it a few times. What's not to like...strong, cheap, brightly colored and holds knots pretty well. Then I snagged it on some bark and it fuzzed up like an old sweater. Every piece of forest duff managed to get hung up on the lines after the 2nd use.
No thanks.....I'll stick with the guylines I got from Brian at OES. I'm not sure what the specific line is but it works great. Too bad it's not reflective.
I agree. Right now I'm playing around with zing-it/lash-it on a couple of new tarps. I like the spliceabilty of it, but I love the stiffness of the SNT better I believe. Time will tell. Brian has it at OES for $21.50 for 100'. Thats the best price I've seen. I wont even touch mason line. We spend $175 on a hammock, over $100 on a tarp, $150+ on a underquilt. Then try to save $15 on guylines? Makes no sense to me at all.
