    Manistee River hangs?

    Hey Everyone,

I'm looking to do a kayak trip down the Manistee this spring, and I'm wondering if any of you have any favorite hang spots on the river when you're paddling?

    Thanks!

    Jeff.

it is a good site but it would be a little hard to get too and you'd have to leave the kayaks at the base of the hill. if you stay at the point just prior to #3 that would be good or you could travel down to #5 which would be a nice spot and you could have your kayaks at your side.

I have paddled about a 120 mile stretch from CR 612, north and east of Grayling, in the headwaters down to Glengary Bridge which is near the Mesick area, headwaters of Hodenpyle Dam. If you have interest, there is a livery I work with that could easily spot you and has great, reliable service.

I paddle mostly the stretch of Smithville (M-66) to Harvey Bridge (Rd. 19). The upper stretch around Grayling is more private, while downstream of Smithville is a whole lot of state land.

    Hi Canoebie,

I'm not sure yet. I'm thinking a trip in May would be best. I talked to an outfitter at a river here near Cincinnati, and he mentioned the Manistee. After I did some research on it, I was sold. I plan on 1 overnight and bringing my good camera (in a couple dry bags).

Do you have any recommendations on sections to do, and outfitters to use?

I'll be bringing my kayak, so all I'd need is a drop off and a place to park my truck. I'm hoping for some little traveled sections of the river, but I know that can be harder to find, and worry about strainers leftover from winter.

    Jeff.

LOL, didn't read down far enough. Yes, any advice would be greatly welcomed.

Should we make a hang out of it? I may be bringing 1-2 guys with me, but we're open to more (guys or girls) coming.
