what is the ideal size of Tyvek to make a tarp out of?? and would it be overkill to add grommets in the area to run line through??

The "ideal" size is independent of material. What size do you want? With Tyvek the longest side can be anything less than the roll width, which is I think 12 feet?
Tyvek is great, but with caveats... don't bother trying to sew it, postage stamp effect. Use Tyvek tape if you need to join 2 pieces. I suspect that the grommets will tear through, unless you reinforce that area with a couple of layers of Tyvek tape.
On my Tyvek tarp (before I got a Thread Injector and the fever...) I used small pebbles and slip knots. Wrap some Tyvek around the pebble, loop the slip knot over that, and pull it tight.
i had thought about putting about 2 layers of ductape on both sides where i planned on putting grommet. say a 2x2 inch square and then put grommet through the center??? and actually i am not using tyvec off the roll. i got a buddy that works at a lumber yard and i am getting the tyvec sheets they wrap the entire pallet of wood while its on the truck. there usually 20x30
also could try tarp clips??
