Used a modern military Patrol Bag with Gore Tex cover I got off Ebay cheap .
Cut a cross shapped cutout in the bottoms and stiched around it to keep from fraying so I could slip it over the foot end of the hammock and pull it up for a foot box as well. Sewed on a couple of grosgrain tabs to use for mini bungee cords at both ends to keep it close to the hammock body.
I've been in the teens with it and slept nicely.

Revival of an old thread but it applies:

I have a few old Coleman sleeping bags. One is an XL and down insulated.
I do not want to modify the bags in any way.
I am looking at two different ways of doing this:

    1. opening the sleeping bag all the way and using tarp clips to attach my shock cord. Then pull the inside up against the bottom of my ENO DN.

    2. When the bag is unzipped, there is a small opening below the zipper. What if I run the suspension through that hole, then zip the bag up, peapod style. I know this will mess up my diagonal lay some, but one of the bags is an XXL bag which may still give me some diagonal.

One more option: I have a Double sleeping bag which is basically two single rectangle bags zipped together. It also has the gap between the zippers. That would be huge around my hammock. I may have to test drive this before this weekend.

I have a UQ now, and learned a couple important things. First you need to be able to snug it right up to the bottom of the hammock. Tight shock cord will work. Second you need the ends bunched up to prevent drafts. But not too bunchie... You don't want a lump that will cause an air gap. If you can manage these things without modding the sleeping bag, that's awesome. When I made my interim solution, it was a poncho liner. It already had trim I could use as channels for shock cord. It worked quite well.

I may have to give this one a try. I have one of the cheaper Walmart sleeping bags. I know they aren't great but it typically doesn't below freezing here in MS all that often. A nice down filled UQ will come eventually.

I am going to try my sleeping bag first. But may try the poncho liner for a three season. South Alabama only gets below freezing for a short time during the winter.

    Here's my half-arsed-makeshift-no cutting-no sewing-no hassle attempt

I haven't tested it in the woods but I whipped something up using an old bag unzipped and whoopies to tie it to the ends (If I don't end up with a real UQ I will likely swap out to shock cord). I also need to do something to gather the head end but still being warm, it isn't a high priority. The way I last tried it the bag is slightly twisted to the non-entry side to allow me to get in and out as well as for the footbox but this means the side tie out on that side is blocked. Seems pretty warm. I am sure that the bag should be snugged up in parts but that can wait.

Took less than 5 minutes to do.

Hey anyone still thinking about this... check out this method. JasonJones came up with a really cool way to rig up a sleeping bag UQ without any modification to the bag.
