    House suspension system.....

I know so already are hanging in their homes, others thinking about it.
    This vid shows one method:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFGWLho_fGA

I'm sure there are an almost infinite number of methods but this method was simple/quick and works for me.
The steel plate in the bathroom will someday get a decorative shroud, then again maybe not!
The outside plate in my case because of the hardyboard could have been much much smaller and it could have been 'squared' up a bit, but where I live no one cares about aesthetics except two cats.

Anyway, thinking this might help with ideas or motivation. The install took about 40 min's.

I think that you're really only spreading the load between the first two beams with a sandwich of walboard. Any pulling from that will bend the plate, not sure as I don't have the strengths of plate steel table here in front of me, but even 1/4 inch doesn't take much to bend. Now if it was Angle, you'd definitely be applying the full span. In any case, you're not going to pull it through the wall with just a hammock on the other end.

It kinda seems like overkill to me. Then again, a little overkill is a lot cheaper then a wall and window frame. Since your Artsy, judging by the guardian, maybe hack off the excess all-thread, straighten and find a similar icon to hide your outside plate. A nice Planter inside that just happens to hide the inner plate and a matching one of the far wall of course.

Good idea on the steel plates MM. I've studied many possibilities for hanging inside even considered building something up the walls with wooden beams. I only weigh 112# so the steel plate method wouldn't be necessary for me. And with limited space a stand was out of the question too.
Well I finally decided on my method and hung my hammock last weekend in my bedroom. I just drilled two swing hooks into the walls where two walls adjoin, meaning they're through two 2X4's. I painted the hooks to match the wall color too.
It hangs over the bed and is working fine with no signs of stress on the hang points. I don't think I'd let anyone heavier in it though, we'd have to take it outside.

    Thanks for the comments.
Cakes-where two walls join is very strong and at your body weight the perfect choice.
Opie-when the hammock is down you hardly notice the eye bolts. The bar in the bathroom, well I need to get the sawsall (sp?) and cut off the excess threaded rod.
Cannibal-I used to carve a lot of wood....I'll try to get one of the totem poles in a vid someday.
Mr.Clean-a friend assayed my plan, he was one of the originals on Whiteblaze to get into the calculations involved in wall hanging and he agreed too that the plates were way overkill....I just like non issues. As far as the plate so far (11 nights now) no visible bending or bowing...that inside wall and the outside wall are kinda funky...behind the sheetrock on both sides of the wall are 2 inches of foam board (and r-13 fiber inside), so the total wall thickness is 8-9 inches....so you might ask why insulate an interior wall to that degree, well in deep winter that room and others are rarely heated and the coldest ever at my house (1982) -32F....probably more overkill but the Vermont Castings in that room will heat that room all night on one log.
The planter idea is a good one, thanks!
    MM
