    Weekend first hang

I am gonna sneak out the local wilderness area this weekend. This will be my first solo flight. My planned set up: WBBB with Whoopie slings and tree straps, 8x10 Campmor tarp, Thermarest Ridgerest pad (25 inches wide x 60 inches long with corners rounded off), a 1/4 inch Gossamer Gear thinlight pad (actually 2 pieces taped together to about 38 inches wide by about 40 inches long or vice versa), a piece of 3/8 inch GG thinlight pad for my feet, and a Montbell 30 degree down bag to use as a top quilt. I will probably wear my down sleep clothes and a Backpacking light UL60 balaclava for my head and whatever I have in my pack for a pillow.

Expected temps probably in upper 40's, but maybe mid-40s.
Wind: most likely, but usually calms down around dark
Rain: not expected, but mountains make their own weather.

I tend to sleep warm and usually only get cold from the knees down, hence the extra pad for the foot region.

Please check out my list to see if I am missing anything.
I expect this will be learning trip, just like when I first started backpacking. Should be fun! I will check in post trip to let everyone know how well I survived

Good luck, if we don't hear back from you by mid week, we'll send out the wilderness rescue.

I just did my first overnight last weekend. Low around 48, and a blue ccf pad and 30 degree synthetic bag kept me toasty. I slept in shorts and a fleece top. I did discover the value of a head covering. I just pulled the mummy over my head and went right back to sleep though. Good luck, I know you'll have a blast. I can't wait ti get back out this weekend.

Hey Country from a WV native! North Central? Grew up in Fairmont myself. Looks like a good setup ya got there. You'd prob be fine with just longjohns with that pad and bag but doesn't hurt to be prepared. Let us know what the temps were and how warm you stayed. Have fun friend!

===> Sounds like you have the sleeping stuff nailed - don't forget about cooking, food, and water! And a camera!

You will have a ball! It is a very liberating feeling to know you can put a pack on your back, walk in any direction for any amount of time, and still live comfortably!

Enjoy! (PICS, or it never happened!)

Thanks everyone. I am packed up and ready. Pads are a bit bulky, but pack is still pretty light, around 15 or so pounds. Might rain by a bit after daylight, but it has rained so much this spring that I am starting to get used to it.
I actually have my b-pack check list printed and framed (weird I know, but I like it) and it sits on top of my ready-to-go food cabinet. Everything checked off for this trip.
Expected low temps at about 3700 feet is 50 Degrees; so 4000 feet should be in the upper 40's. I think I shall be warm and dry!
I might just be ordering an underquilt after I get back since my stuff just fit into my Gossamer Gear Gorilla pack (except the thermarest pad, which is tied to te pack just over the mesh front pocket). Well, I will check in Sunday evening and let you know how it went.
