Thanks for this spreadsheet! My sons and I really like it as you can enter the diameter of amsteel and lengths and it does the calculations for your specific application. My sons and I read and read to find out what do to and tried to find out everythign from the Amsteel site, we got close. Using this tool was easier.

That is awesome!! All my whoopie sling woes are over! I can never remember the proper length of a fid.

Thanks for posting. Takes all the guesswork out and, more importantly, prevents me from having to do "public math"

does it matter though if i round up for the fixed eye bury and the contrictor for 7/64? i was thinking 5" and 10". does it make the breaking strength go down more than normal?

I was also wondering about rounding up on the bury. I can't see how it would degrade the strength, but I'm interested to know. Also, I wonder if it makes adjustment more difficult. I suppose it can't hurt to experiment.

well.. here's your answer. i just got off the phone with Samson Rope (makers of amsteel), and they said the fid markings for the fixed eye bury and the constrictor portion of the whoopie sling are minimum estimations and extending the lengths of measure will not further degrade the breaking strength of the sling itself. i usually round my fixed bury to 5" and my constrictor to 10". hope that helps..

Excellent. I like to over-engineer, so rounding up the bury length sounds like a good bit of security.
