    why not just use mule tape for the abrasion prone parts, and skip the protection?...cheap and it still will take a lot of abuse.

    Has anyone made a DIY version of this portable stand?

    It looks pretty heavy. The rope could be switched out for amsteel. But the wooden poles? Would seem to maybe help in a desert environment where you only have one dusty tree and some boulders

    it looks like it'll work fine, except the ground anchor had better be substantial!

    I might try something similar to this using my raft oars this summer. We often use river camps with mostly beach and a few tress along the back edge. I have a huge sand stake that I use to tie off my raft that would probably hold really well. If & when I use this set-up I'll get pictures. I've also wondered about using the climbing anchors. Cannibal..... what kind do you use (type & size)? Are they hard to remove from a crack once they've been weight loaded?
