    70D Nylon Taslan

Will this work for a hammock body. Is it strong enough?....to stretchy?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

It should be okay for a hammock body, it is the same as 1.9oz ripstop but it doesn't have the checkered pattern that ripstop has. Taslan is how they weave the material, using an airjet, and basically bunching up the threads. It is supposed to be lightweight, but the 70D Taslan is still 1.9oz/sq. yard. I also read where it maybe softer to the touch?, I thought ripstop was soft enough. If the price is right I would try it out and see, it should be strong enough.

any idea what the weight limit of this stuff would be? I would like to find something that would hold more than the 1.9 RS nylon.

    Thanks for the input guys.

I thought HH used 70D Taffeta or 210D oxford on most of his stuff. That's the first place I looked to compare it to but didn't see that he used it. I may have missed it.

I may give the taslan a shot. The price isn't that great but it's MARPAT camo so, $3.49 a yard isn't too bad but I would have to pay shipping.

I have a lead on some woodland ripstop nylon locally but they didn't know the weight. I'll have drive down there and check it out. It was $3.8X a yard.

i thought taslan was the same as supplex. supplex has more of a cotton feel and look to it, not slick like ripstop, which is why it sucks for a hammock. supplex will stick to your clothing, making it very uncomfortable in general and more difficult to slide around into diff positions.

make sure it's not the same as supplex, i think it might be, in which case don't use it.

yes, like a hammock made of sandpaper.

if one needed the extra strength of supplex, you would be much better off using double layered ripstop IMO. i only made one hammock from supplex, and never will again.
