    2 hammocks, 1 tree?

I just picked up one of those monster 12x12 guide series tarps. Does anyone have a good pic or description of how to hang two hammocks from the same trees, side by side? I've seen some photos in the gallery but it is hard to see the set up of the hammocks.

Or you could setup so that the hammocks are side-by-side. Take an old broom handle 2'-3' long (two of them) and use it as a spreader-bar at the head & foot ends.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

I was going to suggest some kind of spreader bars too, but I couldn't come up with something light and strong enough to use for hammock camping. I don't think a broom handle would do the trick.

Also, consider the fact that unless what you are anchored to is very sturdy (thick tree) you'll feel whoever else is hanging with you move all through the night.

My son and I hang side by side all the time. If we need spreader bars we just use our hiking poles.

IF you picked fat trees you could attach your tree straps 90 degrees to your hammock on opposite sides of the tree. That would give you the thickness of the tree trunk between the hammocks.

On a camping trip this fall, I shared a tree with a friend (3 trees, 2 hammocks), and we could feel each other roll over in the night...to be fair, the tree was only about 4-5 inches in diameter...

This is the way I see it. The foot end of your hammock suspension is attatched at a higher point than your head end and is longer from the tree to the hammock than the head end. When you hang two hammocks from the same two trees with the head ends at opposite trees the foot ends will overlap or be side by side. Normally a tarp needs only to cover about 10 feet of hammock and would not cover the two hammock setup. The Guide Gear 12 X12 in a diagonal would be about 16 feet of coverage, more than enough to cover the extra length in a two hammock setup. I have a GG 12x12 and its huge.
