    Ellicott's Wilderness SC

A couple weekends ago. My boss was nice enough to let me cut out for the weekend since we had been so busy and I had worked some 18 or 19 days straight so I headed up to my favorite area in South Carolina. I spent Saturday hiking in and looking for Ellicott's and commissioner's rocks which are where the borders of NC, SC, and GA where surveyed in the early 1800's. I did some videos while I was up there and below is what I came up with. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did the trip:

I'm drawn to the open country. Its where the world makes the most sense. When I put myself out there I always return with something new.

No I didn't. What it is: this guy surveyed the border of NC/GA in 1811 I think and he etched NC and GA in a rock along the river. Well SC and NC did not like where he had surveyed it so the commissioners of the 2 states had it re-surveyed and another rock has etchings in it. This is the excepted border of the 3 states today. Well these rocks are right along the river at the 35th parallel and sometimes they can be under water. I will be trying to find them again. I am just a little bit of a history buff, so I like to see things like that. Other than that there's really nothing "special" about it I guess.

My favorite hiking/camping spot. I've never been able to find Ellicot Rock. I also have not looked real hard. It doesnt have a giant flashing sign, so I cant find it easily.

I had a gps with the "coordinates" and couldn't find it. I think it may have been under water... the river was up a bit.

I like it "home sweet home". I can't wait for 60*° here in the great white north...where it is snowing again, darn it all.

Well anyway thanks for the trip report and the video.

Looks like a really cool place. Could you post or PM the coordiantes for the rock? Is there a website for the park you were in?
