Sorry Rip, I think I misunderstood your question the first time I read it. Protection has a certain meaning in my head.

We usually pack our food in it's own stuff sack and just hanging it from a tree a good ways from camp. I left some trail snacks in the mesh hip pockets on my fairly new at the time pack that was propped against a tree, and come morning I had significantly fewer snacks and an aftermarket hole in the mesh. I think that might have happened on a trip to Colorado, but still, it helps me remember to hang my food.

no worries. there's been some talk on here about ursack's failing the grasps of bear... i really don't know the threat out here... so was just curious to hear from the 'yocals.

i usually hang with the pct method to avoid mouse, racoon, bear, etc.... but will use the ursack for convenience...

    You people ever sleep?

I am now packed and ready to roll. I am bringing my BV500 for my food protection, from all sizes of things. I own it, and use it often. I loaned my Ursack out to a guy in Colorado for his trek to Alaska this Summer.

Time to eat breakfast and finish up the chores before heading over.

I am beginning to believe that the northwest is going to have a thriving hanging culture in the near future. Could we spawn our own Shug? Probably not even close to his charisma, but hey with the size of the hang it is not impossible?
I do a mean Carl impression, but I don't have Shug's vaudevillian streak.

I'm bummed out I'm going to miss the fun... After a bit of car trouble this morning it seems I would be pushing my luck to drive the 5 hours down at this point to meet up with everyone. I hope you all have a great trip!

Was a fun trip, A lot of very cool people. Not to mention setups! Learned lots and now I must spend more money.. I'm happy I dropped my pack weight this year, made the hill climb out much more pleasant.

The climb out was definitely harder than the hike down, even after burning the wood I brought and eating all my food. Next time the ~8 lbs of steel doesn't come along in the pack, that's for sure

    So... without further ado...

I have patches on the way for everybuggy who will be attending (graphic below -- made by the delightful Devil Woman Flags). They will be 3 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches with a red background, so they should fit nicely on a pack or wherever you choose. See you all there.
    Kayte,
You'll be hearing from my attorney about your blatant copyright infringement of my avatar!!

Seriously, VERY NICE!! Thanks you for those cool patches!

That's great! That's a pretty good chunk of change for HF's! Who one the grand prize and who won the Te-wa quilt?
