Metal snap buttons on 1.1 ripstop

I'm considering refitting my UQ's with metal snaps rather than shockcord. The cord pressure on my left shoulder has finally got me looking for alternatives...

My question is this... does anyone know the reprocusions of inserting metal snaps on the outside layer of 1.1 ripstop (1.1dbl BB)?

Perhaps a dumb question, but will this tear easily?

Might be kinda heavy (relatively speaking). Can you do it with plastic toggles and elastic loops? Or--ultralight: sew on eight-inch lengths of grosgrain ribbon to both sides of each place you want to connect and just tie it on. Let us know what you figure out!

I remember something about when you get in the hammock the material on the UQ tries to move and it can't so it might rip. That was somebody trying it with omni tape, though. I think the solution was to just attach the UQ while somebody is in the hammock.
