    Help!! what to buy?

i live in south Louisiana and although its still cool enough to hang the mosquitoes are already fighting mad. i'm using a simple hammock and separate bug net now but would like an integrated model. i'm basically a car camper with day excursions so weight is not super important but preferrable. your opinions would be a world of help.

Any of the great hammock vendors on this site will work well for you. Warbonnet, Hennessy, Tree to Trail, etc.... scope them out, check out the pictures and videos, and I'm sure you'll be happy with your choice. Hard to go wrong.

I went with a Warbonnet Blackbird double layer, and am very happy with my choice. I also tried a Hennessy Expedition Asym and was definitely not a fan. YMMV.

    Caution, SwampSloth!

I had a hammock with an integrated net last summer and, even up here in the high mountains of Western North Carolina, I got TOTALLY CHEWED UP on my BACK by gnats. Needless to say, over the winter, I built a hammock with a separate bug net that hangs down below my undercarriage. Unless you're ALWAYS going to have an underquilt or pad under you, those buggers can bite right through a thin layer of nylon! Good luck!

That's EXACTLY why I bought the double layer WB instead of the single layer. Not only is it nice to put a pad between (rather than right under you) so it moves less, but as far as I know mosquitos can't bite through both bottom layers.

I could be wrong, but I believe this is true, due to the fact that the holes between the weave of the two layers never line up, so the skeeters can't bite through. Even if one got lucky and bit through two perfectly aligned layers, the layers would shift and end his fun.

Double layer doesn't insure no bites. A light underquilt or even a fleece blanket inside or outside under you will do the trick. I have a Hennessey ULB and a DIY (almost finished) Blackbird. I rather the DIY more, probably for the fact that I made it.

You might want to go to the Tree To Trail forum and read all the raves about the Switchbacks.

I just got the LightHiker and love it.

The bugnets are integrated put you can tie them up out of the way.

I think the Clark Tropical would be right up your alley.
