Ok now we are getting some where. How will it work? I mean I have a widget to trade and I'm looking for a geegaw? Or I have a billbob, what will some offer me for it? Then when the deal is done what then. Will you have to go through the thread to try to figure what's left? I'm just trying to be clear on how it will work. Thanks.

If there were a "barter" section, similar to the "for sale" section, then anyone with an item that they would like to offer for trade would create a new thread within the barter section announcing their item. It is a different concept than the current PIF thread.
Current PIF thread:
All posts relating to items offered for PIF and claimed are posted in the same thread.
New barter thread idea:
Each new item offered for trade is listed as a new thread.
Ideally, we would be able to edit post titles after they have been posted so that when an item is traded we could mark it as "sold". As it is now, admins have to manually keep up with posts in the for sale section and change the title to reflect that an item is no longer for sale.

i like the idea of a barter thread..... rjcress.... i like the idea of using a new post for each barter item. needless to say that shipping would be between the two parties involved.

John Sawyer and I did this as a result of a thread on the DIY forum. I needed a simple ridgeline organizer, he needed mitten hooks, and had some ideas for the RLO. We collaborated on the design, I got my organizer, he got his mitten hooks, that's the way it should work.
I'll throw my vote behind this idea. I was just thinking today that I have a few skills I could trade from time to time to folks who aren't as laughably inept with a thread injector as I am.

Folks, you don't need a new subforum for this. We've had lots of WTT threads in the For Sale and Want to Buy forums. Just start a new thread with WTT at the beginning of the title.

We already have the capability to trade/barter in the For Sale forum, as the PIF thread demonstrates. Just mark something WTT and you're all set.

Would be nice to be able to search "WTT" to see what is available out there but it is too short. How hard is it to get the subforum up instead of looking for items one page at a time in the for sale forum.
