Hey bat I know this will be a few months down but let me know when you hit maine ,I hike the 100 mile section quite often and I can help you if you need any when you hit monson maine
have the time of your life ps make sure you stop and listen from time to time,alot of threw hikers say they will do it again just to see the trail instead of just head down humping,,,,

I started my thru-hike 2 years ago today, hiking up the Approach Trail to the summit of Springer, then on to Stover Creek shelter.

Wow, have a good,,, no GREAT hike.

Something to keep in mind as you head up the trail & you hit the 4th day of non stop MUDS & PUDS* in the rain:
Never make a permanent decision based on a temporary storm. No matter how raging the billows are today, remind yourself: I must keep MY mind on the objective, not the obstacle. Hike until you feel like stopping. Then: take time off, get clean, warm & dry; fill your belly & rest. If I still want to stop, do so. Just remember: Do not make the final decision when: cold, wet, & miserable!

Another favorite saying on the AT & it may help you enjoy the hike: "No Pain, No Rain, NO Maine!" To me that means; you are going to hurt, you are going to get wet, just relax & make it part of the experience "WOW, it has rained for 8 days straight, I bet all the water sources are full, GREAT!!" Then do your happy dance & head on down the trail. OR, My muscles really hurt, GREAT, that means I'm getting stronger, & do a subdued happy dance.

That is sound advice, Doctori. Just as with most everything else in life, 99% of battle is between the ears. Keep a positive attitude and remember that you're suppose to be having fun. I look forward to reading your journal, as a friend and I are planning our hike in a year or two. Good luck, Bat.

Also, I spend a lot of time in VA in the warmer months and might try to say "hi" as you pass through the Roanoke area.
