    AT packing complete leaving 3/21

I started planning my upcoming attempt to thru-hike the AT almost 2 years ago. I want to say thanks to all the great people here at HF for their help and support. This isn't a trip report per say but an announcement that you can follow my blog if you want the "full report."
I did the full load out of my gear tonight. The pack weighed 19.4 lbs that included 6 pounds of food (for the first 3 days). I fly to Atlanta Saturday morning and start hiking Monday morning.
I just noticed that weight doesn't include my small point and shoot digital camera and the guide book I will be using. Camera was charging and I hate destroying books so I'm waiting until the last minute to rip the book into sections.

Have fun on your adventure. I'll be watching your Journal to see anything new.

Thanks Ron. I wouldnt have made that weight without the great advice here. Can't wait to drop a pound or two when it warms up for good. However by the time I get to send the winter gear home I will have lost more than a pound or two

That pack weight is excellent....and think you'll be lighter after Mt.Rogers....though you will be heavier when you leave Fontana. Still 19 leaving Springer is quite admirable and you carry more food that I do at 2lb/day. I think you could even carry another pound or even two of luxuries because 21 pounds is still a great way to start out. Dont know how you feel about tech stuff but the latest smart phones have 8mp and you can store all your manuals on the microsd cards in the phone and do your journaling on it too, so a 5 ounce phone gets ride of a 6 ounce camera and a 6-10 ounce guide.

An under 20# pack, and thru-hiking the AT! Man, I'm jealous!

Be careful, and keep us posted, most of all have fun. That truly is an adventure of a lifetime.
