    First Hang Tonight!

Yep...will be testing out the hammocks tonight with my youngest (Weasel). Weather looks to be damp/chilly, around 38*F as a low. Tomorrow night is scheduled to be rainy/stormy but warmer.

We're both going to be running HHSS, PL, sleeping bags, and wool blankets. Both have CCF pads as backups.

Couple of others will be tent camping with us.

Should be an interesting run...I'll try to post results and pictures when we're done.

Just do it, and have a blast. Look forward to hearing about it.

    Sounds Good

Those temps sound pretty good for a first hang. You may want to err on the safe side with insulation for underneath the hammock. Maybe bring something extra.

Of course, this comes from a person that did his first hang without any at all at 46 degrees F. Couldn't find my down jackets to stuff underneath. Oops.

I've got to call the first night hang as an unmitigated success.

Temps did get right down to 38*, cloudy at first but then it cleared right out, and got some great views of the "supermoon".

Weasel and I were both snug and toasty. Neither of us had cold spots or any issues whatsoever. I think he was a bit overdressed...LOL!

I didn't need the poncho liner at all. The HHSS along with the mil sleeping bag was plenty underneath, and the blanket on top was all that I needed. The hex tarp came a bit loose but I didn't get any of the breezes later in the evening coming through.

Weasel had no issues at all. Was asleep within minutes of climbing in.

My other two sons slept in our tent, with the CCF pads and sleeping bags...both complained they froze their butts off. My oldest has decided he wants my hammock.

I think the best indication of success was that I didn't even think about the fact that I got up out of the hammock Saturday morning and got the fire going with no stiffness whatsoever. I didn't even think about it until later in the day.

Had to cancel last night and come back early...but like I said...first night hang was a resounding success for both of us. Everything performed fine...I just need to learn to hang my hammock a little bit higher...was only about a foot off the ground once I climbed in. A practice thing...but no complaints even hanging that low.

I'll post pics a little later today.

Thanks guys for all the great advice here...it made our first hang awesome!
