    How do you know what kind of ripstop weight you are buying

    From a Joann's or the like?

    Someone from here called up and found out (After much effort) that the ripstop from Joann's is 1.9 ripstop. I have and many others hammocks made out of the stuff there and it works fine.

    Sweet! If I am 250 with maybe 10 lbs of bag, should it be layered?

    Yeah, you should be fine. There's a dude on here who weighs 285 and he says it's been holding up quite well. You may have a little stretch, but, you would fall through it.

    DL all the way

    I make all my hammocks double layered so that I can place my pad between the layers. If you want to save on $ or weight, 1.9 would probably hold you up. From what I hear, 2 layers also helps to keep mosquitos from biting through to your back, but I haven't tested that yet.
