I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
Welcome to HF, it's great to see more paddlers joining in! I've paddled and camped for the last 20 years from my kayak, and now will be doing my first hang via kayak in a couple of months or sooner. Can't begin to remember how many great spots we paddled past because the ground wasn't level enough, Etc! Now that will all change thanks to hammock forums!

Welcome back rcurry. At 50 something you (we) are sort of in the middle of the pack around here. Many of us chose to "rise above" tenters, out of necessity. Hammocks may very well extend our camping lives for several decades.

We are now ready to start our way down the Great Unknown. We are three quarters of a mile in the depth of the earth. We have an unknown distance yet to run, an unknow river yet to explore. What falls there are, we know not; what rocks beset the channel, we know not; what walls rise over the river, we know not. Ah, well! We may conjecture many things. The men talk as cheerfully as ever; jests are bandied about freely this morning; but to me the cheer is somber and the jests are ghastly. Powell 1869
Welcome from the PNW! I just took up kayaking, but only on little lakes.
Lake Cumberland is great flat water paddling as long as you stay to the side and out of the way of go fast boats. I usually stay off of it (Lake Cumberland) on the weekends altogether and take advantage of Cumberland River below the dam. The bad part about Cumberland River below the dam is you can't get out of the boat and swim. Water temps are cold even in the summer. If you trout fish that is the place to go around here.
I certainly would like to get a group together in the summer for a trip. I'll think things out and get back with a plan.
I actually spend a lot more time on the Green River and Green River Lake.
Hangin' round beats on the ground...

Yes I have. The first trip was a single night on the Green River with two ground dwellers.
The second trip was a weekend staying at the Roachville Country Club. Great group of people who have a private self made camp site located on the Green River. I was the only one hanging and several were interested in my gear. Most were in canoes.
welcome from louisiana. i visited an outfitter in lafayette la a few months back called pack n paddle. it would not be hard to get interested in paddling. i think there is more opportunities here in louisiana to paddle than to hike, considering the lack of hiking trails.
Welcome to the forums. Hammock Camping keeps us all feeling younger.
