I use it on my tarp lines. Been using that knot since I learned it as a webelo scout in the 70's. Thats over 40 years ago! Wow! Its been holding well on the line I got from Mountainfitter.

Whats wrong with the taut line hitch??
Nothing.
It's not the knot that's the problem, it's my memory. If I haven't tied a knot in the past 3 months or more, I have to look in the book again and relearn. Tried tying a bowling yesterday. Sat there stumped for several minutes trying several things. Finally gave up, looked in Ashley and in less than 5 seconds I knew how to do it again. That's a simple knot. For something complicated like a Diamond knot, I have no chance.
No problem with my memory when using a splice or a Figure 9.
Little rabbit comes out o' the hole, goes 'round the tree . . .Tried tying a bowling yesterday.
I have to admit sometimes a Figure-9 is simpler especially in freezing conditions when everything ices over.

i use four knots in total:
i *really* like the marlin spike hitch on my hammock toggles and tarp & hammock guylines. so much faster/easier to tie/untie than anything else.
i use the grapple hitch for the tarp ridge line around the tree, or to secure anything to a line. it is a very secure knot, it's adjustable (can slide) and it's easy to untie even on zing-it (but not in cold weather and gloves - i'm waiting for some tarp flyz for that ;-)
prusiks and zeppelin bends are the two other knots i use.
i love them all, so useful! :-)
