    continuous ridgeline...

I've got a Maccat Deluxe on the way (hopefully will arrive today (fingers crossed)) and have a ridgeline question. With my old flat tarps I've been using a continuous ridgeline of zing it or fling it or one of those types of line. I use prusiks and hang the tarp under the ridgeline.

One thing I like is the ability to string up the ridgeline and then get the tarp centered over the hammock.

How well does this setup work with a catenary tarp like the Maccat? Should I ditch the continuous ridgeline or maybe consider putting it under the tarp rather than over?

I've never had a issue with mine! Mine is a MCD in sil not spinn, don't own a spinn tarp yet and asside from the midnight or very early morning sag from it raining all night, which actually isn't all that much and the tensioners usually take care of this (as long as I pitched it right and not rushed through it) it has been great!

CB, do you use your continuous ridgeline above or below your tarp?

I always put my ridge line under my MCD. Seems to make for a tighter pitch. I only use the ridge line above the tarp when a heavy, all night rain is expected. I suppose this lessens the chance for rain to follow down the ridge line.

I have the Maccat in Spinn and I run my Zing-it ridgeline below the tarp when there is no chance of rain. If there is a chance that there is going to be a severe downpour I will place it above the tarp. I learned the hard way, severe downpour all night, that the Zing-it will let the rain run down under the tarp and drip on my hammock. With a continuos ridgeline it is ease to switch the tarp from over the ridgeline to below the ridgeline.

Thanks for the responses. Do you guys use drip rings or strings or anything like that on your hammock suspension or ridgelines?

the continuous ridgeline will be fine with the MCD tarp. Either above or below.

I haven't had an issue with rain or water getting in so I haven't used any drip strings are rings. So far (knock on wood) I've been ok.

I run mine over, made more sense to me to just leave it one way instead of taking a chance of forgetting or not waking up to flip it! I don't use drip strings but I do carry a single shoelace as a just in case, so far have not had a issue!

Past couple times out I tried just using guy lines from the tarp to the trees. The first time was an accident but the second time I tried something different.

The WB tarp I received a month ago was an older one and Brandon had put 2 split rings as attachment points on the tarp's ridgeline guyouts. I figured I'd try using the 2 rings with a garda hitch backed up with a slippery half hitch. It worked well and was easy enough to adjust and center the tarp over my hammock. I might keep doing this to see if I like it.
