i just keep my line permanently attached to the D ring on the ridgeline and then wrap it around a tree with a figure 9. looking into linelocs from zpacks for a lighter option. after hanging the tarp so many times i can often eyeball it center pretty good. therefore the benefits of a crl aren't worth having for me

a split ring like a keyring? (for the garda hitch?)

I hung my new Deluxe using the continuous ridgeline I used for my flat tarps. I didn't really like it as well as it seemed that I couldn't get the ridgeline as snug. I'm gonna go back to using two separate lines I think.

Yes, small split rings you may see on key chains. Brandon was using small welded rings early on and had some difficulty sourcing them. On the tarp I have he substituted split rings that were the same size as the welded rings. The garda hitch worked quite well on them. I don't know if I will continue to use them since the split rings have the sharp ends where you insert things onto them. They didn't cause problems but I could see them snagging certain kinds of cordage. The no tangle lines I used did not seem to catch on the rings but its possible. You can see the way I set it up at 8:00 minutes in this trip report:

Up until now, I have use lines from each end of my tarp with a Figure 9 to tighten. I liked the V set-up that I saw in dejoha's diagram (stickie) in the tarp forum. I like that it prevents the tarp line from interfering with the hammock suspension. I scored a CRL with prussiks as a PIF, but I haven't tried it out yet. It's very light weight, and I like the idea of leaving it attached to the tarp, and the ability to adjust the tarp to center it over the hammock. Do those of you that use this method have any problems with your hammock suspension? I use webbing and cinch buckles.

I don't think a continuous ridgeline is necessarily better. It just gives you more flexibility and faster adjustments. I use snakeskins with mine but I supposed you could do so with either. I did have to use one of my 10' extensions once, due to the size and distance between trees. It was pretty easy to center the tarp. I probably would have needed an extension on both ends for the direct attachments.

+1, the setup I use as well. Yes, it helps keep the hammock suspension clear of the tarp lines, though they do get close when the tree spacing is tight.
