I purchased two hanks of Amsteel on ebay and received the second hank today. The first was silver in color and was very slick and had a pretty stiff feel to it. Today's hank is pool green and is much softer feeling and perhaps a shade less slick. It is, however, much easier to work with. Should I be concerned? I was planning on using one color for the head end and one for the foot when I re-string my hammocks.

No need to worry Wi1ecoyote. Amsteel Blue "feel" seems to vary from batch to batch even with the same color. I've noticed more variance lately. It will be structurally sound and function properly so go ahead and use what you have with confidence.
I have found that some of the softer batches are a nightmare to splice though. I've had it get stuck and had to cut it out before on more than 1 occasion with one of the batches I have atm (its also green). It just doesn't "spread" right to let it go through in parts.
What splicing technique are you using? Are you using a darning needle and pushing it or a loop of wire and pulling it? Or some other technique?Originally Posted by tbctx
I've used both on that batch and some areas it goes through fine then suddenly locks up in other areas. It acts like parts of it were heavily tensioned, as normally when you push it towards itself it spreads out making it easy to put in between strands on the areas its locking up it doesn't spread at all, much like some of mine has done after I put more than a little bit of force on it.
